Support and modification cautions
Rhode Island uses the Income Shares model under R.I. Gen. Laws § 15-5-16.2 and Family Court Administrative Order 23-02 (eff 7/1/2023). Existing custody orders may be modified only on a material/substantial change in circumstances plus best interests; domestic violence after the prior order creates a prima facie change.
